Frontman Raul Malo, in particular, has continued to work on his craft since the bands breakup, recently releasing Sinners and Saints, a solo work to continue a string of successful albums, to the delight of fans who can never get enough of Malo’s inimitable sound.With arguably even more twang than on previous recordings, Sinners & Saints proudly lets it downhome roots shine through. Recorded in Austin, Texas, featuring contributions from many veterans of the South Texas music scene, the album does not try to hide the influence the area has on the music, blended flawlessly with Malo’s traditional Nashville stylings, rather embracing the eclectic combination.An all-around well balanced mix between original songs and personally crafted covers, the 9 track release is sure to entertain not only original Mavericks fans, but new followers in the post-Mavericks era and genuine music lovers far and wide. Not specifically catering to audiences of old, the upbeat backdrop of musical instruments will, however, clearly will remind listeners of the Mavericks glory days. (more…)
